What is Lal Kitab?
Lal Kitab ('The Red Book') is a unique system of Indian astrology. Unlike classical Vedic (Parashari) astrology, Lal Kitab is house-based rather than sign-based. The original was authored by Pt. Roop Chand Joshi, published in five volumes between 1939 and 1952.
How Is Lal Kitab Different?
- Lal Kitab is house-based; classical Vedic is sign-based
- Uses a fixed chart (Teva): Aries = House 1, Taurus = House 2, through Pisces = House 12
- Each planet has a Pakka Ghar (permanent house)
What Are Kayam and Dormant Planets?
Kayam = established/fixed planets whose results are stable. Dormant = inactive planets waiting to be activated.
